Ten Months Old!

You are 10 months old today baby boy. Not much of a baby at all anymore, really. You can now say "mama" "dada" (on Father's Day!) and "hi dog!" You crawl up on all fours, butt up in the air. Half the time, your right leg is doing more of a sideways-crab walk thing, you are so ready to walk and run! But it doesn't really matter to you how you get there, just so long as you can go-go-go! You'll start out walking with your little walker toy, but when your feet get going too fast and you stumble to your knees, you'll just stay on your knees and push. You just want to GO!
When you're tired, you'll go-go-go and rub your face on the carpet/pillows/blankets. You can't even slow down to sleep, you must exhaust ALL ENERGY before you stop. The other night, we did the face rubbing and forehead-to-forehead game for 20 minutes at  2 am, and after another hour of just crawling all over me and the pillows, with your eyes closed, I finally had to just leave you in your crib to cry it out. I've had to do this a few times, but you are just soooo tired but just don't want to miss anything. I promise you, kiddo, the fun stops when you go to sleep. Daddy and I aren't partying without you. We're lucky if we stay up to watch one boring-grown-up television show, usually it's off to bed for us too. You've got some cute little "tells" when you are tired- you rub your eyes, shake your head, tug your ear and usually babble to yourself, as if reviewing the day's events. We went to a Bee's game last week and on our way home from Salt Lake, you were just babbling and humming in your carseat, such a sweet, satisfied sound.
You are a very happy baby. You know that you are loved. You have lots of family, lots of friends, lots of toys, and lots to do.You've had to spend time with other people while Grandma was recovering from a major surgery, and we were lucky that we have so much family and friends. You spent a day with Aunt Allie and loved playing with her puppies. You spent a couple days with Aunt Jenni and was intrigued by her kitty and the balloons. I was surprised and happy to see how much fun you had with Jenni- when she brought you to me at work, you kept going back and forth between us like you couldn't decide who you wanted more! And lately, you've spent a lot of time with Grandpa Beck. He's been great about staying at our house with you and you've had lots of fun with him. This week will probably be the last week where we need help from Grandpa because Grandma is ready to have you all day every day again but I wanted her to have one more week of recovery, especially where we have baseball games several nights this week and she'll be staying up later for them.
As far as friends, we have been hanging out with Jett and Tami. Jett is a few weeks younger than you, but about a pound heavier and an inch longer. You two are so cute together! We had fun at a barbecue and pool party at their house this weekend- except when you were the bully and dunked Jett. Oops! We've also been bike riding and walking with Jett and Tami and always looking for a fun activity to do together. Then there's baby Oaklee, 6 months younger than you. Chris and Lacey and baby O came over for a bbq and smores the other night and you were so good at sharing your stuff and showing miss Oaklee how to play with them.
You still love the water, but we haven't been swimming for several weeks- just too busy! We've been to car shows every weekend and baseball games started last night. I think I know where you get your go-go-go from...
Everything else, well, we're still trying to pinpoint what-you-get-from-who:

  • Your cute curly toes are from Great Grandpa Hardy, apparently he was born like that too.
  • The shape of your feet and toes definitely come from me and Grandma Perkins.
  • Your hair color is just like daddy's- YAY!! Well-to-do women would pay bukoo bucks to have the highlights you have dude. Your hair is growing wildly and is now so long that your cute fauxhauk curls almost over itself!
  • Your beautiful lips are from me, but they look better on you!
  • You do have your daddy's skin, dang it. We've just got to be super careful in the sunshine!
  • You have your uncle AJ's mischievous grins down and so many people say they see so much of AJ in you. Other's say "He looks just like his mama!" "He is definitely your kid, Royce" or "I don't see any of Royce in him..." I guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder, huh? To me, you are the best of us all!
  • But your eyes have us stumped. Where does that charcoal blue come from?? And those lovely lashes!!??
Well, buddy, I gotta get back to work. I LOVE YOU!!!
